| Making
a difference: St Teresa’s Home
Hogar
Santa Teresita (St Teresa’s Home) is surrounded by tea plantations
and is 6 km from the centre of Oberá.
St Teresa’s was opened in May 1993. Today, it cares for
32 people with physical and learning disabilities, many of whom
were found hidden away or abandoned on the roadside by families
too poor to look after them. Some of the residents are disabled
as a result of accident or disease. Some suffer from multiple
disabilities - blindness, deafness, psychiatric illness, cancer
or paralysis. The age-range of the residents is from 1 to 91 years.
The home has 21 caring staff combining various skills and degrees
of experience. One of the assistants, José Alberto, is
a qualified nurse and another, Julio Martinez, is a qualified
nursing assistant.
